Dental Services in Ireland

In Ireland, dental healthcare is principally provided by independent dental practitioners and by the community dental services (the school dentist) under the auspices of each Health Board.

The following pages give a comprehensive description of all dental service schemes currently available in Ireland. It is important to view all of these options and discuss with your dentist how best to benefit from these schemes so that treatment most appropriate to your needs can be provided.

Please choose from the following:

Dentistry for Private Patients

Dentistry for eligible Patients who pay PRSI

Dentistry within the Healthboards.

Dental Insurance Schemes in Ireland.

Good Dental Care
Good dental care makes a real contribution to your overall well being. The wise consumer can ensure that money spent on dental care is good value. The staff at your dental practice will be able to supply you with detailed information on all aspects of dentistry in Ireland.

The cost of health care is a concern to most people. The obvious way to reduce cost is to prevent or control dental disease. You should:

1. Have regular dental check-ups
For the early detection of problems
For advice on self care

2. Practice effective home care
Brush daily with a soft or medium brush
Floss between teeth
Use fluoride toothpaste
Watch your diet (reduce sugary foods and drinks and reduce snacks)

3. Wear protection when playing contact sports
Use mouthguards for contact sports... the professionals do!
